King Billy pine — Tiger Myrtle Mandolin

Sound files

Fanny power Listen Woods of Caolrua Listen

Notes

The combination of carved King Billy pine with tiger myrtle really suits an A-style mandolin as it provides warmth, sustain and pleasing overtones that really suit celtic and classical music. This mandolin has a particular richness and warmth. It is also aesthically pleasing with its intense 'tiger' figure and natural warm colour of the King Billy top. The nut is 32.5 mm and the neck has a soft V shape which ensures comfort for long periods of playing. As with all my instruments, the top and back are carved, the back sides and neck are all of the same timber, and finish is clear so you see the natural features of the wood.
